We celebrated Independence Day while we were in the Outer Banks this year. The big event that morning was that this little girl lost her second tooth!! She lost her first one on Halloween and her second on the 4th of July so she is now determined to lose all of her teeth on holidays!
We started off the day by attending the local parade in Duck.
We found some nice shade while we waited for the festivities to begin...
Every morning, Grandma Julie had a special surprise for each of the grandchildren. One day it was these hats with their names on them.
Jason and Jeff went on a donut run which helped us all pass the time in a delicious way!
Nolan getting in the patriotic spirit!
The parade was your typical small-town event which I love. They also threw out lots of candy which kept the kids very entertained.
After the parade it was time to hit up the pool in our backyard. There was lots of jumping...
Throwing around...
And flipping!
The whole gang cooling off!
Four sisters and best friends!!
That night my mom had prepared a little program to celebrate this very special holiday.
There was even some entertainment for us all to enjoy!
And concluded with a "Birthday Cake for America!"
That night we headed down to the beach to see if we could see any fireworks. We weren't expecting much since the whole Outer Banks has a ban on fireworks, but boy were we wrong. They must put a moratorium on the ban for the 4th of July because there were fireworks everywhere! It was hard to know where to look because they were being shot off all up and down the entire stretch of beach. And these were not just your typical neighborhood fireworks...people had launchers and were doing the same "light-up-the-sky" fireworks that you see at any city display. People probably spent thousands of dollars on these displays (I'm not sure where you would even buy these kinds of fireworks!) There was something magical about being on the beach and surrounded by the ocean's roar as we participated in this grand event celebrating our nation's independence.
We hope to spend next July 4th in the exact same spot!!

That sounds like such a great place to be on that day and it also sounds like you want it to be an annual event that you guys are right there. That is very cool and sounds fun.
