Evening at the Park

The Church's youth groups have been meeting for in-person activities that last few weeks at Black Rock Park just down the street from the church building. Sometimes I will take all the kids so that the younger three can play at the park too while we wait for Landon and Abby to finish their youth activities.

Maylie loves to "pose" for pictures now but Hudson was just interested in having a good time on the slide!

We are enjoying these beautiful Fall evenings while we can!

Flag Football

Landon is playing his first season of flag football and is absolutely loving it. He has practice on Thursday evenings from 6-7:15 p.m. and then one game each Saturday at 11:30 a.m. He loves how action-packed the game is, especially when compared to baseball!

He loves playing most positions but especially loves playing wide receiver and intercepting the ball on defense. He is quite the little footballer and says that Thursday and Saturday are his favorite days of the week!

His team struggled the first few games but finally took home a win in their third game. The team that he plays on (The Hurricanes) didn't win a game last season so having a win this season was a big deal. That made everything even sweeter for Landon!

Many Faces of Abby!

Grandma Call took this nice picture of Abby while she was here visiting over Labor Day weekend. Such a pretty teenager that has yet to hit any awkward stages!

A few days later she came down wearing this ensemble. She is working on different techniques for curling her hair without heat based on Pinterest ideas she finds online. I thought this technique made her look like Professor Quirrell from Harry Potter. I was worried she might be hiding Voldemort under that turban!

C&O Canal Hike

On Labor Day we headed over to the C&O Canal to hike a portion of the trail we had never been on before. We ended up walking a total of about 3 miles. We absolutely loved this section of the trail and decided we need to plan more Saturday morning walks/hikes in our future!

Sunflowers

We kept seeing local people posting gorgeous photos in this sunflower field. We had never been there before, but it was only about 15 minutes north of our house in Pennsylvania and was so very worth it. The sunflower field was HUGE and it was so fun to meander around inside of it!

I think we need to go back sometime during the evening to get some even better photos of the field!

Back to School 2020-2021

The first official day of school was on Monday, August 31st.

Maylie -- Kindergarten at Paramount Elementary

Nolan -- 4th Grade at Paramount Elementary

Landon -- 7th grade at Western Heights Middle School

Abby -- 9th grade at Barbara Ingram School for the Arts

We converted our downstairs playroom into a "learning room" which is where they spend their day doing online school. They all begin their school day at 9 a.m. Maylie finishes at 1:30 p.m., Landon at 2:10 p.m., Nolan at 2:30 p.m. and Abby at 3:40 p.m. They all get an hour for lunch and several other small breaks during the day.

Landon, Nolan and Maylie all have school-issued iPads...

And Abby has a school-issued Chrome Book.

After a few hiccups the first day, we've gotten into a pretty good routine now and everyone seems to be doing well. These kids are resilient and even though they would like to be back in the classroom, we are making the most of this crazy situation!
