Zoo Trip

Jason was able to take the day off from work last Friday so we decided to head down to the National Zoo in D.C. We thought that we could avoid the crowds by going on a Friday (boy were we ever wrong!!) But we still had a great day...the weather was fabulous, the animals were actually out and the kids had a great time!!

Here is a sampling of the animals we saw that day...
And a few little animals of our own...!!!

Sunday Shenanigans -- Part 2

Let's just say that a "Busy-Body-Baby" and dog food/water do not mix well!!!

Caught in the act (with his Sunday clothes still on)...

Trying to hide the evidence...
"It wasn't me mom, I swear..."

No worries though, you can't get too upset at a face this cute!!

In Honor of Boston...

Today is the 113th running of the Boston Marathon, the oldest and by popular opinion, the most prestigious marathon in the world. The Boston Marathon is one that you can only run (except in special cases) if you run a qualifying time in a previous marathon during the preceding year. For runners, it is the "creme de la creme" of our sport and definitely deserves special recognition. Especially since for the first time in MANY years, an American woman (Kara Goucher) and an American man (Ryan Hall) have legitimate chances of finally beating the Kenyans/Ethiopians on our own turf. How cool would that be?!?!?! So good luck to all of you 25,000 runners who qualified to run it this year. You Rock!!!

In honor of the Boston Marathon, I completed my 400th mile this year!! Yeah for me...but I can't let that get to my head too much. In order to qualify for the Boston Marathon, I would need to run a 3:40 marathon time for my age group (the equivalent of running an 8:27 mile for 26.2 miles!!) The good news is that my one and only marathon time would qualify me for Boston!!! The bad news is that I would need to be over the age of 80!! BOOOOO!! (Maybe they would take the fact that I was 3 months pregnant into account, hmmmm!!!)

Sunday Shenanigans

Sometimes as a parent, you find yourself passing many a' day going from room to room cleaning up all the messes that your children make. The "Day of Rest" seems to be no different around our house. Now that Landon is very mobile, my clean-up duties seem to have doubled in the last few weeks. From taking out all the videos/books/CDs off the shelf, dumping out all the toys from the various toyboxes around the house, pulling out every dishrag from the kitchen drawers...

...the work never seems to end!! But no worries, Abby is always willing to help clean. Not always in the most helpful of ways mind you (like washing clean dishes in the bathroom sink with handsoap), but willing to help, she always is!!

It's a good thing they are so cute, huh? It's hard to get too mad at sweet faces like these, especially when they sing such sweet songs like this one. ENJOY!!

Easter "Egg-travaganza"

I think we got all "egged" out this Easter (we had three different Easter egg hunts total that we participated at a local nursing home, one at our house and another at my sister Tasha's house.) Abby loved finding all of the different eggs and ended up with quite the loot. On Saturday morning, both kids woke up to their Easter baskets filled with goodies and their plastic eggs full of candy (for Abby) and puffs (for Landon). Landon was probably a bit more interested in trying to eat the plastic eggs than anything else!

Later that morning we headed down to Virginia (sans Jason, who had to!) and met up with most of my family. My parents had flown in and Lara's family had driven up to join us for a big Easter celebration followed by a birthday party for little Coldon who is just 7 weeks older than Landon. I cannot believe he is already a year old!! (Nor can I believe that Landon will be hitting that milestone himself in less than two months!)
Coldon was a big fan of his birthday crown and his pile of presents...

However, he was not such a big fan of his first cake experience!! We tried everything to get him to dig in, but he was having none of it. My niece Paige was the same way when she turned a year old, but now happily proclaims that "Cake is my favorite food!" So no worries, he will eventually become a "treat-aholic" too, just like the rest of us!
Tasha, Jeff, Coldon and my dad all came up the next day for Easter dinner while the rest of the family headed back down to North Carolina. It was so much fun to be able to have almost everyone together again to celebrate two very special occasions. Abby was very sad to see her cousins leave, and kept begging me to turn the car around so that she could play with them some more. At least we live close enough to see them fairly regularly.

Happy Easter!!

We are especially grateful at this time of year for our Savior Jesus Christ and everything that His empty tomb represents to all of us. May each of you have a blessed and joyful Easter holiday because of Him...
