Day in Washington DC

After the zoo, we headed into the city to explore some of the sights and see the cherry blossoms in full bloom. It seemed like everyone else had the same idea as DC was packed, but we still managed to see a lot of the monuments and the trees were gorgeous!

National Zoo

There was no school on Friday, March 25th so we decided to take a trip down to the National Zoo in Washington DC. It had been years since we had been and it so fun to see it again through Hudson's toddler eyes!

This bird gave the kids quite a fright. They were all standing near that green railing when it flew up to join them!

Abby was a bit wary of this thing!!

Hudson is obsessed with elephants so this is what he was most excited to see!

It was a gorgeous Spring day and with low crowds at the zoo, it was perfect day to be there!

Nolan plays Futsal

Nolan also tried out a new sport this season....Futsal or indoor soccer. He had a great time and learned a lot. Here he is with his team after his last game on Saturday, March 19th. He also plans to play regular soccer in the spring.

Ward Pinewood Derby

We had a ward Pinewood Derby on Friday, March 18th. We just used two of our old cars to race but Nolan's actually did pretty well and ended up coming in 3rd place in the kids division. Way to race Nolan!!

New Car!

After looking for over a year, we found pretty close to our ideal car at CarMax in Frederick on Thursday, March 17th. We took it for a test drive that day, came home and thought it over for 24 hours while they held it for us and then went back the next day to purchase it. It is a 2017 Hyundai Sonata Plug In Hybrid and we are loving it. It gets amazing gas mileage and we love how smooth a ride it is, especially in all electric mode. This is now Jason's main car and we will pass down the Toyota Camry to become the "kid car" once Abby gets her license in August.

Leprechaun Traps

We threw together some hastily made leprechaun traps on March 16th in hopes of catching some little elves. Alas none were caught in these traps, but they did leave some green gum and golden candies for their efforts on St. Patrick's Day the next day!

Landon's First Basketball Season

Landon played his first season of basketball this winter and absolutely loved it. I was proud of him for trying something new. That can be especially hard at 13, but he has a lot of natural athletic ability and really made huge strides in his playing ability over the course of the season. Here he is with his coach Isaac after receiving his medal. He is planning on playing another season of basketball this spring!
