Girls on the Run!

For the last ten weeks, Abby has participated in a program called "Girls on the Run" after school at Paramount Elementary. It is a program designed to create strong, kind, and confident girls while incorporating elements of running into each practice session. At the end of the program, each girl participates in a 5K to culminate their experience.  I had the privilege of being a runny buddy for the 5K held on Saturday, May 30.

We got to the stadium bring and early...

I was really impressed with the program and Abby loved doing it after school each Monday and Wednesday afternoon along with several of her friends...

I was the running buddy with Abby and our neighbor/friend Sydney and they both did an amazing job completing the hot and difficult 5K cross country course.

There was so much kindness and encouragement shared throughout the whole race and it was a really positive experience for everyone who participated. The event wasn't timed, taking the competitive spirit out of it a bit, and each girl was just encouraged to finish, with everyone receiving a medal at the end. To be able to run over 3 miles at 9-years-old is a pretty major accomplishment in my opinion.

I sure do love my running buddies!!
